Biological Activities of Selected Seaweeds from Tamilnadu Coast

The fuel characteristics of two typical seaweeds (Enteromorpha clathrata and Sargassum natans) were studied. It was found that both the contents of volatile and ash are high, and the ash melting characteristics were different. High contents of alkali metals especially K and Na were also found in seaweed ash. The ignitions of seaweed particles were observed using a thermal microscope, which Enteromorpha compressa is also sometimes called Ulva compressa linnaeus. It may be called thread weed or tape weed, and the Swedish name for this seaweed is “Tarmalg.” More generally, the term “sea lettuce” is used to refer to many different subgenres of seaweed in the Ulva genus, so this term may be used on some products and on marketing materials.
